Police Report - April 2019
The West End Community Policing Team have circulated the following information
"This report covers progress we have made in dealing with your priorities for the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st April to 30th April 2019.
Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
Although we have had no reports of off road motor cycles on the Deeside Railway line they have
been seen in other local areas. We have operation Armour running specifically to combat these issues. Please can you call us at the time you see them with a description of the bike and the what the rider was wearing, calling us saying you saw three motor cycles a couple of hours ago with no description is of little practicable use.
There have been no reported vandalisms or assaults during this period.
Acquisitive Crime:
There has been a report of two insecure vehicles having personal contents stolen and a motorcycle
taking from an insecure garage in addition to a vehicle being stolen by means of a true key.
Please remember to lock your vehicles and garages secure your motorcycles to something within the garage.
There are people who come into our area from elsewhere in the city for the specific purpose of preying up in us please make their journey a waste of time. Should you see someone hanging about and think it’s not quite right please call us.
Road Safety & Road Crime:
In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.
This month we undertook an operation at your behest to address the Road Traffic issues particular to your area, this has been one of the most successful ever carried out in the North East.
We spent a total of 1745 minutes or just over 29 hours out on local roads within the Hazlehead and West End areas (not including travelling between locations) carrying out speed education/detection and engaging with the public. We provided 163 educations of which 15 were in the form of C/s with the highest speed recorded being 48mph in a 30mph, 3 defective vehicle notices were issued and 1 vehicle seized for no insurance.
We spent mornings with 3 local Primary Schools advising on road safety, engaging with the pupils and letting them operate the equipment and speak with errant drivers, such was the enthusiasm it is likely to lead to the reintroduction of the “Junior Road Safety Officer” program.
We will forward the results of the roads visited prior to the next monthly meeting of the Community Council.
Community Engagement & Reassurance
I hope we have all been able to take advantage of the better weather and the longer days recently by spending more time outdoors, as always we would ask you to lock garden tools & cycles away after use and if you're in the back garden is your front door unlocked?
As more of us enjoy the open recreational spaces Aberdeen has to offer be it the Deeside way, the Hazlehead parks and trails or anyone of the garden parks we have dotted across the city, we would ask you to take a little time and consider those others using them and how they got there, perhaps by car by cycle or even by horse. Each requires a different consideration from other road users you can find out more here. http://www.scotland.police.uk/keep-safe/road-safety/
I am certain you are tired of me saying LOCK YOUR DOORS month in month out and at every meeting, however if there is one thing YOU can do to reduce crime in YOUR community its circulating the message to LOCK THIER DOORS. Don’t get me wrong the others are important but when you get up to find that your car is missing because someone left the front door open and the keys hanging up beside it you will rightly expect ALL our local resources to be deployed to help you.
We want to address ALL the local issues, but this time of year we know we need to place a significant emphasis on acquisitive crime. The majority of those stealing from us don’t live in our area, so if in the middle of the night you think something just isn't right, trust your judgement and give us a call right away, either as an emergency on 999 or to the Service Centre on 101.
I frequently mention at local meetings we are an information hungry organisation and we thrive on what you tell us, please think of the above and if you have any concerns, thoughts, queries or questions let us know. AiryhallBroomhillGarthdeeCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk
I would also invite you to let us know where you think we can assist your community over the summer months. Whilst many of the things that annoy people are just that annoyances and not for the Police, many aren’t. I would like you to think of the things you think we should know whether it be off road bikes, youth disturbance, speeding, underage drinking, please don’t always assume someone else has told us we would rather hear about something seven times than not at all.
We, your local policing team are driven by what you tell us, so please take this opportunity to contact us AiryhallBroomhillGarthdeeCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk and let us know. You might be surprised that we are addressing the issues you present and that your information will make our response that little bit more effective in meeting local needs.
You can no doubt sense I am pushing our Local CPT Email inboxes, for you in our area we are trying to make them the equivalent of the informal chat over a garden fence, they are not for ongoing crimes but they absolutely are for you to tell us everything else.
National Campaigns
Door step crime increases with the lighter nights this time of year, often in the guise of Bogus Workmen they pray on the elderly and other vulnerable groups in our community. If someone you know is suddenly getting work done in their property that they have never mentioned, ask them about it, if it seems suspicious contact either ourselves or our partners within Aberdeen City Council Trading Standards https://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/business-and-licensing/trading-

AiryhallBroomhillGarthdeeCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk
HazleheadAshleyQueensCrossCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk
TorryFerryhillCPT@scotland.pnn.police.uk
The primary purpose of these e-mail addresses is for residents to report non-criminal queries, such as passing attentions, information, advice and non-criminal quality of life issues, such as youth annoyance. These e-mail addresses are not for reporting crimes or offences. The process for reporting any crimes or offences is to call 101 (Aberdeen Service Centre) who will log the call on our Command and Control system and allocate the incident to our area. Using this process negates the possibility of the report being missed and also ensures that the callers detail, addresses and telephone
numbers are noted for our awareness and response. Should you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to discuss these with the Officer attending your Community Council Meeting or by emailing the above e-mail addresses or our Service Centre. It is not necessary to wait until the meeting.
