Police Report - October 2019 - Braeside and Mannofield Community Council

This is the latest report from Sgt Simon Lewis-Dalby about the police activity in the Community Council area.

This report covers progress made in dealing with policing priorities in the Braeside & Mannofield Community Council area during the period 1st to 31st October 2019.

Community Policing Priorities
Antisocial behaviour, Violence and Disorder:
There have been no reports of antisocial behaviour, vandalisms or assaults during this
period.

Acquisitive Crime:
There have been reports of thefts overnight from two vehicles, one in a garage and one from a front garden in which personal items such as cycles and golf clubs were taken. All were insecure with the items either on open display or easily discoverable.

Please lock your property and keep valuables out of sight

Road Safety & Road Crime:
In response to your requests Officers will be taking a robust approach balancing education with enforcement to ensure the relatively small minority who are responsible for committing offences and antisocial behaviour with vehicles are held accountable for their actions. We will be working with partners and making use of antisocial behaviour legislation. Residents in the areas affected by antisocial driving are encouraged to contact Police on 101 at the time to report incidents in order for us to take positive action.

Community Engagement & Reassurance

The clocks have changed and the nights are getting darker, this is where we usually urge you to lock your doors ensure that valuables are kept out of sight and that a light is left on to make your home look occupied! This we would still like you to do particularly in relation to our After Dark Campaign
you don’t want to be the only home on your street that looks unoccupied and vulnerable, as someone put it recently, to be the injured Wildebeest on the Serengeti when the Lions come to call. What we would like you to do is all of the above but in the vein of having a home resilience /emergency plan.

This is the place to look for good advice regarding emergency plans, but we would like to perhaps think of extending yours to cover a little further afield.

 Consider your security, how would you break into your own home?
 Consider where you keep your keys and valuables?

Making little changes and only minor inconveniences to a daily routine can make you significantly less likely to be a victim of crime.

 Consider your vulnerable neighbours, how will they manage in the cold weather or a power cut?

Although there is nothing as effective as a neighbour going round to check, even your awareness that there are vulnerable people nearby, means should something happen you can advise the appropriate agency to check on them.

 Consider where you keep valuable documents and information do you have copies stored elsewhere than your home should the worst happen?
 When you’re clearing the leaves up and looking at the spaces in the borders remind yourself that the plant catalogues have sections for plants which look good and enhance your security?

There is a wealth of information out there to help you plan and prevent crime however having a visit from local officers will assist you in improving your security (if needed) but also to put the risks into context.

The importance of the relationship between you the Community Council and us your CPT in preventing crime cannot be underestimated, you are an integral part of our community and as such have access to information and opinions not open or readily accessible to us.

National Campaigns
This time of year a number of our young people look to move away from home and into further education, the advice below will be invaluable in keeping those loved ones safe as well as their property with them. It can be a daunting time for any young person and their family however significantly more support and advice is available than in years gone by. Some will be returning shortly full of excitement about recent developments. Please take time to discuss the matters below with them.
