Volunteer Drivers needed

The Community Council has been asked to assist in the appeal for volunteer drivers by the childrens' charity Aberlour.

Shonagh Kane, the Volunteer Coordinator with Aberlour said;  "Would you like to help children with disabilities by assisting with travel to and from our services in Aberdeen?

My name is Shonagh Kane and I am the Volunteer Coordinator with Aberlour, Scotland’s Children’s Charity. I would like to let you know that we are currently recruiting Volunteer Drivers for our Options Aberdeen service to help children and young people to access our facilities.

Aberlour Options Aberdeen is a short breaks service, providing residential, community-based short breaks and care at home for children and young people with disabilities. We offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping transport children to and from our service on our minibus, helping them to feel comfortable and secure. Our services are in the Bucksburn and Garthdee areas of Aberdeen, with journeys across the Aberdeen City area.

The impact you can make
Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping children feel safe, secure and relaxed during these journeys. Volunteer Drivers put children at ease, who may otherwise be feeling anxious by interacting with children and being a friendly face to accompany them to and from the service. These interactions help to develop communication skills, building confidence and self-esteem.

The benefits to you
Volunteer Drivers can gain a real sense of satisfaction from helping children with disabilities travel to and from the Options Aberdeen service, knowing they are making a positive impact and helping to make their time at Option Aberdeen enjoyable. Volunteer Drivers can gain experience working with children and young people, and become part of a supportive and encouraging team.

When will I be required?
Volunteers will typically be required to transport children to the service after school, and home from the service in the evening. Volunteers support may also be requested at weekends or for organised activities.

If you would like to find out more about this more, I would be more than happy to arrange to have a chat on the phone, video call or in person. If at this stage you are keen to apply to become a volunteer with Aberlour, our Volunteer Application Form is available on our website here: https://www.aberlour.org.uk/volunteer/how-to-apply/. Alternatively this is something we can also complete in person if you prefer.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions"
