Planning Application - Green Belt Land
Aberdeen City Council have received an application - No 220772/PPP - to build nursery premises on the land immediately west of Northcote Lodge on Craigton.
The piece of land in question is currently a fallow field with no previous build upon it and is in the Aberdeen City Develoment Plan designated Green Belt.
The current Aberdeen City Development Plan is very clear on permitted use of Green Belt;
"No development will be permitted in the Green Belt for purposes other than those essential for agriculture; woodland and forestry; recreational uses compatible with an agricultural or natural setting; mineral extraction/quarry restoration; or landscape renewal".

A commercial development, which could be sited in any number of more appropriate locations, does not fit with these permitted potential exceptions.
Furthermore, the site is also within the Pitfodels Conservation Area which has this designation on the basis of the diversity and richness of the flora and fauna in the area.

The Community Council has objected to the granting of planning permission on the grounds above, highlighting, in addition, the increase of traffic in Craigton Road during peak traffic times in the morning and late afternoon.
